We took part in an exciting LEGO workshop run by The Creative Hub, where they became young engineers! As part of the “Big Little Helper” project, we built our own LEGO robots before learning how to use coding to bring them to life. Working in pairs, we programmed our creations to move, sense objects and complete different tasks. The workshop encouraged problem-solving, collaboration and creativity, while introducing the children to key STEM skills in a fun, hands-on way. It was a fantastic session filled with creativity, problem-solving and discovery!
In science, we have been exploring States of Matter, identifying and comparing the properties of solids, liquids and gases. We enjoyed handling and observing a range of materials to decide which state they belonged to and explained our reasoning using scientific vocabulary. We also investigated some unusual materials, such as gels and foams, which share properties of more than one state. This hands-on lesson helped to deepen our understanding of how different materials behave and how their particles are arranged.
The children thoroughly enjoyed their educational visit to the River and Rowing Museum in Henley, where they took part in the Understanding Rivers workshop. During the session, they explored and deepened their knowledge of the geographical processes within a river. The day also included a river walk along the Thames to Marsh Lock, where the children were able to spot and discuss a range of human and physical features. They finished the visit with the chance to explore the museum galleries, which brought their learning to life. A big thank you to the parent volunteers who kindly supported us on the trip.
